CHANGE MAKERS
Being a superhero
- Pushpendra M.Garg
I always wondered why people are saving the world while creating threat to it by themselves. I always wondered why these people are called Scientists, Environmentalists, Thinkers and not just 'Human Beings'.
Why there are only some people or one section of the society concerned about environment when we all are part of it??.. This can be seen like How many of us know about our Environmental Laws??..
What we are doing from years is not always good or beneficial with changing time. By the repetition of a process and its multiplication has made us to do a work by a process which we are following or which is told by our ancestors but not by our conscience. By this repetition, we are not able to make or to think a change and we are not able to adapt a change. A change is always necessary with changing time and era. Change is necessary for development of a country and oneself. One who brings a change is called a CHANGE MAKER. This is how a change maker can be defined.
This doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, but what matters is that you brought a change. A change that will contribute for the welfare of humanity. Making a change is far more greater than our selfish motives.
I know it feels bad when we come after watching an action pack superhero movie wishing that we could also fly or have extraordinary powers. What if I tell you that you or we can be a Superhero. Superhero not in action sense but by spirit. Listing some like Tony Stark, Bruce Wayne, Clarke, Peter Parker, etc. They are superheros because they are change makers. What if Tony Stark would not have visited Afghanistan ??..
Superhero's motive is to help the society from evils. In India, we are dealing with many evils from our doorstep. Poverty, corruption, education, rape, deforestation many more have just became so normal that we often listen them in every conversation or discussion and we often try to avoid these because they are boring, not conclusive, etc. We might call them pointless and up to some extent they are unless we start finding a remedy for them.
Henry Ford said," Don't find fault, find remedy".
In this article I will be dealing with one of the evil i.e., Education. Education, not in studying or illiteracy sense but starting with the base of it. Apart from practical knowledge, where do we get education from ??..Books. Books are made of ??.. .......PAPERS.
Paper is one of the root cause linking two evils harming or damaging the development of our country i.e., Education and Environment. Now we all know how a paper is made with the help of trees.
What Does a Superhero Do at First ??
He/ she analyses the problem or the situation. Analyzing will give us that the consumption of paper has risen up to 400 % in the past 40 years leading to increase in deforestation with 35 % of harvested trees being used for its manufacture. Deforestation is there because paper is made of wood pulp and conventional bleaching of wood pulp is done using Elemental Chlorine which produces and releases Dioxins in the environment which are highly toxic and has dangerous health effects for Human.
After Analyzing the Situation Superhero makes his First Move :-
His first move is knowing what the Government is doing for the cause. In India, several associations like I.T.C., Department of Pulp and Paper Technology, etc are helping a lot. Now in some areas Chlorine Free Pulp (C.F.P.) is also made.
The above activities are beyond the reach and interest of normal being.
Now Superhero do what he/she is Best in :THE KNOCKOUT PUNCH
Finding a remedy is being a Superhero. To fight with this problem of paper, we will have to look for fixing the small things.
There are some measures which will definitely sound different but are effective. They are :
1. Every child who is studying have a rough copy right from their 4th or 5th standard (class). In colleges, practically speaking there is only a single notebook which will be there for their whole year and that too they treat it as a rough notebook.
Here what we can do is to also use the margins of the notebook/register. By using the Page Up Margin we can get 3 more lines to write. By this we will be able to save 1 page per 10 pages of writing.
I do admit that teachers tell students to leave the margin portion for discipline but why the margin should also be left in their rough copies, which can save trees. Coming to statistical view:
In NOTEBOOKS, 8 pages of use of margins in writing will save 1 page. Normally there are 112/172 pages in a copy, so we can save up to 14/21 pages.
In REGISTERS, 10 pages of use of margins of the register will save 1 page. Normally there are 200/240 pages, so we can save up to 20/24 pages per register.
2. Now there is a growing trend of paper bags. I m not against it but instead we can carry or keep in our vehicle a bag made of cloth whenever possible.
3. We can borrow/give the books from/to our seniors/juniors and use them instead of giving it to a Raddiwala or buying a new one every year.
Now if you Followed the above points, then give yourself some credit in saving the world. These measures will definitely result in saving trees and your money as well. Its upon you to look over the small remedies or ignore them and live like you never read this.
So, now your MARK 42 (suit) is ready to boost and kick the evils. All you need to do is get into it by awaking others..
JARVIS copy that..........
